So they asked: is it right to pay taxes?
If Jesus had said yes, then they would have reasons to say the one who claims to be the Messiah and son of God still supports continued slavery and servitude to mankind. This could be used to discredit him.
And if he had said No,
But knowing fully their minds and evil intentions, he does what I'm about to tell you. And it's extraordinary.


He asked anyone to bring a coin.
And someone brings a coin sample.
And he asks the asker's and onlookers:
Whose image is on this coin?
In resonance, they all answered: CAESAR'S!
And then Jesus implies:
Then, in that case, give what's Caesar's to Caesar, and what's God's to God.
Case closed.
