Giving what's Caesar's to Caesar, and what's God's to God

Once upon a time, a group of askers came to Jesus and asked him if it was right to pay tax, they weren't looking for legitimate answers. They had only one goal: to trap Jesus with either of the two possible answers: yes or no.

So they asked: is it right to pay taxes?

If Jesus had said yes, then they would have reasons to say the one who claims to be the Messiah and son of God still supports continued slavery and servitude to mankind. This could be used to discredit him.

And if he had said No, then here again is another avenue to pit him against the government authorities. This would be used to take him down.

But knowing fully their minds and evil intentions, he does what I'm about to tell you. And it's extraordinary.



He asked anyone to bring a coin.

And someone brings a coin sample.

And he asks the asker's and onlookers:

Whose image is on this coin?

In resonance, they all answered: CAESAR'S!

And then Jesus implies:

Then, in that case, give what's Caesar's to Caesar, and what's God's to God.

Case closed.

As Christians we cannot cut ourselves off from the affairs of the world, but we should never compromise our beliefs and values. Our decisions and our loyalties must be decided by what furthers the common good.
