The Emefiele-led CBN has launched the TIES scheme - an entrepreneurship funding scheme targeted at Nigerian graduates and undergraduates. In fact, at its launch, the CBN awarded N5 million to 6 pioneer beneficiaries under this scheme. According to Mr Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, this scheme is aimed at steering Nigerian higher institutions students and graduates away from white-collar occupations and toward entrepreneurship. This will make Nigerian graduates become job creators rather than job seekers.

The Pioneer Beneficiaries of N5 Million:
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the six pioneer beneficiaries of the TIES as announced by CBN were:

1. Aisha Sulaiman, a graduate of Bayero University, Kano.
2. Chukwudi Ukpabi of Federal Polytechnic, Ebonyi.
3. Nura Abdullahi of Kano State Polytechnic.
4. Simeon Ojopane of Kogi State University.
5. Adebowale Olaoye, an accounting graduate of the University of Lagos.
6. Zainab Muhammed, a graduate of Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

The CBN urged the loan recipients to put the money to good use in their enterprises in order to spur growth and job creation. Their academic certificates would be held as collateral and returned to them once the loans were paid off, CBN governor said.

“What we are doing today is something that is taken for granted in other climes. At the CBN, we are concerned about the level of unemployment within the youth population and we are taking steps to address it.’’

An 11-member Body of Experts have been constituted to steer the scheme, which is Chaired by Mr Abubakar Suleman, the Managing Director of Sterling Bank Plc.
