The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday, 25 October 2021 launched the digital currency – eNaira, making it the fifth digital currency to be launched in the world and the first in Africa.
The eNaira is a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria as a legal tender. It is the digital form of the physical Naira and can be used the same way as cash.
Following the go live of the eNaira, most banks' digital channels (especially mobile apps) have been integrated to the CBN’s CBDC system to allow for the distribution of eNaira to customers.
To transact using the eNaira, download the eNaira Speed Wallet and sign up with with your bank in the steps listed below:
Download eNaira Speed Wallet from Google Play Store/iOS App Store
Click Sign up
Select your bank from the list of banks
Input your details – mobile number, password, name, account number and email.
To fund your eNaira Wallet, log into your bank's mobile app and initiate the transfer.
