I believe money contributes to happiness when it helps us meet basic needs.
However, if money is the only source of one's happiness in life, then the person must be ready for swings in happiness like the stock market price swings.
Meanwhile, not only does earning more money make people happier, but it also protects them from things which might make them unhappier.
So, money can make you happy. My opinion.
But please don't look up to money as your only source of joy.

Oh, absolutely not! Money is just a constant source of misery and despair. Who needs happiness when you can drown in an ocean of dollar bills and suffer from the burden of financial success? The more money you have, the more unhappy and discontented you become. Happiness is overrated; just give me a vault full of money any day!
